Bus & Cycle Lanes
Bus lane
Across London Red route bus lanes are now un-restricted to use for motorbikes. Note this is still a trail period which will be reviewed in May 2010.
Having access to these bus lanes is great news for riders and as long as the road safety numbers improve and riders are not seen as more of a problem, then these concessions are likely to stay after May 2010.
Cycle Lanes - Mandatory Solid White Line
Not permitted to drive in or park.
Cycle Lanes - Broken White Line
Permitted to park, check for the specific yellow or red route restrictions. You are also permitted to drive through these.
Red Route Bus Lanes
Red Route Bus Lanes are now unrestricted for motorbikes. This is a temporary measure which will be reviewed by May 2010. These bus lanes are on red routes which are managed by TfL.
Note: All other bus lanes operated by Local Councils maintain the restrictions for motorbikes., unless signed otherwise. An easy way to know is to check the sign on entry into the bus lane, as most of these lanes will have single or double yellow lines.
Other Bus Lanes
In London all other non Red Routes/TfL roads are operated by the Local Councils. These bus lanes carry the standard restrictions for motorcycles. These are often by the lack of the red lines and are painted with a single or double yellow line.
