The new parking measures in K & C (Effective 1st April 2008)At present, visitor and resident motorcyclists can park free of charge in any motorcycle bay in the Royal Borough. In addition, residents can purchase a motorcycle permit for £18 a year that allows them to park in residents’ (car) bays. However, motorcycles parked randomly in residents’ bays are vulnerable to being knocked over by other parking vehicles and it is not possible to provide secure locking facilities.
Under the new parking measures, we will: • Introduce permit only parking bays for residents’ motorcycles. This will be achieved by converting a proportion of the existing free bays to permit only use and introducing additional bays as necessary • Provide secure locking facilities in all residents’ motorcycle bays • Increase the capacity of the remaining free (visitor) bays where there is a proven demand and scope to do so
Under the proposals, the total number of motorcycle parking spaces will increase from approximately 1,600 at present to 2,600, giving every resident access to a secure parking bay within a few minutes walk of their home.
Penalty Charges Motorcycles parked in a parking bays for residents’ motorcycles only and not displaying a valid residents motorcycle permit will be liable for a Penalty Charge Notice. These will be charged at £80. If paid within 14 days this will reduce to £40 and if paid within 28 days it will be reduced to £60. |
